Nico (front) and Christopher are sitting on old railroad tracks! Fathers Day 2016
June 22, 2016
My guys, my dudes, make life enjoyable for me and, hopefully, others who encounter them. My sons are my hobby because they require all my attention. I wish I had another hobby to go along with them, however.
Boating was a hobby that I once enjoyed until I traded in my regular-sized boat for a bigger boat, sinking my hobby like the Titanic. Former boat owners say, "The happiest time in a boat owner's life is the day they buy and sell it." The bigger the boat, the bigger the mechanical problems.
I used to go to the shooting range and fire rounds at targets. As a police officer, I must hone my skills in the practical safety of using any firearm. That was a good hobby until carrying my gun felt too much like work. When you calculate the expense of buying shooting targets (only to shoot holes in the paper) and buying ammo to hurl towards them, the range master might as well allow me to hang my money in its place and shoot at my hard-earned cash. Also, the ammo isn't cheap.
The gym was a hobby I had rather enjoyed. But the gym, who says they want the gym? Except for fit CrossFit people? I found the gym to be more therapeutic than just a hobby. I would spend hours there weekly. The iPod was a game-changer for me. I could put all my music on it to help me become motivated in my workout. The bonus to working out was that I shed weight and gained muscle mass, which pushed my hobby harder. When my wife died, the desire to go to the gym has been gone ever since.
My new hobbies, in no particular order, are Muay Thai, boxing, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I don't plan on entering any matches or any potential championship runs. Other than pulled muscles, sweat, blood, and dislocations, I like these hobbies. I can pretend I'm a badass at local establishments when I wear the T-shirts of that particular gym.
I walked around a Hobby Lobby once. I realized that nothing they sold held my interest. I was better off holding onto the cash in my wallet. My uncle bought a $1500.00 radio plane that I watched fly off and never returned. The radio frequency stopped working, and the plane disappeared on the horizon.
I wish something would hold my attention as much as a food buffet does. I found walking around the different lanes of a Golden Corral more fun than any of my above hobbies. Slaloming between foodies at the restaurant would be a beneficial hobby. I could be an official food tester and begin a new blog proclaiming my favorite factory-made buffet food!
Until I can figure out what kind of hobby I want to do to occupy my time, I will continue to work on my kids while they grow up. Raising them is a responsibility, and the events I attend for them can be my hobby.

Okay. I think blogspot ate my comment lol. I was just saying that my husband coaches my kids sports teams and he enjoys that. Might be worth looking into?
