Left to right: Sugar, Nico Captain Imperfecto and Christopher enjoying boaters paradise

July 1st, 2013

I keep losing things I personally own, almost everyday. Am I getting fucking Alzheimer’s? Are my kids hiding shit from me? It’s so frustrating. Sometimes, things are lost right before my very eyes. Lost to carelessness on my behalf. Maybe stupidity? Who knows?

Just the other night I took my boys on the boat. I decided to drive to the local city docks and moor my watercraft to the wood docks, so the boys and I could enjoy pizza and ice cream. Afterwards I planned on the kids being able to play in the mini- Bellagio type, water spouts, that are nestled off the entertainment district. The fountains are great. They are recessed into the ground as water is forced out above. Kids love it. Especially mine. I can find myself out there waiting on the bench for at least an hour until they are ready to leave.

Once our fun was done we walked back to the boat docks. I had my trusty  Stinger,$130.00, police work flashlight, in my hand in order to light the areas up with its powerful light, that the dock lighting doesn’t capture. It helps us find our way more safely and enables us step down into the inside deck of the boat.

Once the boys were on board, all I had to do was jump in and  that would have completed  our successful, fun-loving, evening. But of course  I failed to push the flashlight deeper into my side pocket so that left the lighting device half in and half out. The handheld sized, black metal flashlight, goes tumbling into the water, and sinks into the abyss.

As the flashlight faded away the light began to flutter, lighting up the water beneath the surface causing the light to shine all around me, until it faded into the dark and went away, into oblivion. The flashlight was gone, forever.

I have been lucky on some items that I have lost , like my work keys, car keys and other little items that I fished out of the walls of my house. Seriously, my sons exploited a small hole in the wall behind my bedroom door. The hole was created when I tripped in the hallway of our house. I fell into the door pushing the door of the door handle into the plaster, creating the small hole. I never fathomed my oldest son Nico would force those items in the opening, causing them to plunge to the bottom of the inside wall. Being caught in time and space, just like the Twilight Zone. Luckily I just took up fishing as a hobby and I was able to use some fishing string that I had recently purchased after a trip to Wal-Mart, and use hooks that would normally be used to fish with, to feed down the inside wall blindly. And the amazing thing is, it worked! I was able to fish them out!
I had better luck fishing for those keys then I do fishing in the vast ocean.

Other times I have to hide things from my kids. Not naughty things or dangerous things. Just personal items that I use on a daily bases, watch, wallet, etc., I think my boys just like the things that daddy uses and decided that, “if it works for daddy then it will work for me.”

Unfortunately I hide those items a little too good and find myself desperately searching for them not fully sure if the kids took them and hid them or if I just forgot where I hid them. I hate knowing I can’t find something. But I ignore the fact the personal things are missing in the hopes that I will magically find them or again, or better yet, remember where I hid them in the first place.

I fully understand that things come in go. That possessions are just material items that in time can be replaced but it brings no comfort to my busy mind. Because if I am not frantically, actively searching for a missing item, then I am manically racking my brain in hopes that I will remember where I last saw them, or left them

Lets just hope that my brain still works to help assist me in my searches. The last thing I wanted to do is lose my mind, because of that happens, then all is lost.
