It's Okay Daddy

You are here: Home » It's Okay Daddy

Captain Imperfecto and Mimie anniversary dinner 2011

February 05, 2013

It’s okay daddy, we know that you're going through a tough time and just because we are kids, it does not mean we don't understand that people go through these hard times, when they lose a loved one.

We know one day, daddy, you’ll explain us why you cried so many nights, but not today or tomorrow, just tell us in your own time. I just want you to be happy, because we love you more then anything else in this world. Nothing else matters, to us.

I realize daddy why your sad. Its hard when someone close to you dies. They aren’t coming back but they are always here watching over us. Mommy's within us, because she helped create us. She sees the world through our eyes, daddy.  She’s all around us, because we can feel her, touch her, in our dreams.

You don’t have to explain daddy, why mommy isn’t here. Life happens and we can’t control the final out come when our time here on earth ends. The only thing we want to know is how much you love us. We want you to tell us about mommy in due time. Tell us how warm she was. How she laughed and made us feel the love when she held us in her loving arms.

Tell us how she tucked us in at night, daddy. How she taught both of us to say, “hi.” How she was amazed at our first walk. Let us know everything about her while we grow into men, so that she will be a daily reminder of who we are.

You don’t have to point out how much you try to make things better for us, daddy. We can tell by your hugs. When you wrap your arms around us, oh so tight we feel the love pass through your touch and into our soul. We know how much you need us, because daddy, we need you just as much.

We see the things you do, daddy, that tells me us how much you love us. You don't even have to utter the words, I love you because you are the definition of the phrase.

We know that you stay up all night long daddy, because when we wake up during the night, weI see the light come through beneath the bedroom door. I know your always thinking of us daddy, because our school work is always checked and our school clothes are laid out waiting for us in the morning.

The need to keep us occupied is a priority of yours daddy, because there isn’t a weekend that you have off that we aren’t doing something. But we want you to know that Mickey Mouse has nothing on you. He can never bring a better smile to our face then your smiling face. That face that we see in the morning and the last smile we see before bed time, makes everything all right.

Daddy, we need you to see that your our strength through the emotions that over come us because its the outburst of crying we do not understand. We feel something is gone but we can’t figure out exactly how to deal with it, so I must rely on you to get us through this.

Sons’, one day will have the talk. Not just the talk about love. But love and loss. I’ll explain to you how energy is put into relationships that are built from the ground up. The time and effort that it takes to build these things is consuming. The relationship with your mom will never die. It goes on through you. You are her. Embrace her, your mom, and carry on. Daddy and mommy will always be here for you when you need us most.
