Coronavirus Way of Life

You are here: Home » Coronavirus Way of Life Christopher and Nico enjoying lunch during a simpler time. We wish we could do this now. January 18, 2020. March 31, 2020 Things are not typical in the world today. My day-to-day activities have been taken away from me, and yet it doesn't feel that way. I attribute that to the fact that I'm in law enforcement, so I am required to work. But as my State locks us all down and self-quarantine marches on into April, and maybe beyond, that lockdown will be all too real. I am afraid, however, I am obligated to hold it together for my family's sake. They are depending on me. Sadly, Coronavirus will no doubt alter our way of life long after this disease is gone. I can only pray that most of us find a peaceful resolution at its conclusion.  I feel bad for the people who work in an industry I took for granted prior to the lockdown who are affected by this pandemic. So many people we know rely on the food and retail service ind...

Faces Faded Away While in Madrid

Image
You are here: Home » Faces Fade Away Christopher and Nico just outside of the Foreign Ministry of Madrid, Spain  and the unknown lady.. December 26, 2019 February 26, 2020 The faces of the hordes of people that stampeded past me on the busy streets of Europe have mostly faded away now that my vacation is a distant memory. But my photos and videos will help keep those faces alive forever. Especially when I question myself, "Was that trip only a dream?" While I was sitting at home looking at my vacation photos, I saw a picture of a woman standing behind my boys in the carousel line. We were just outside of Plaza Mayor in Madrid. Her demeanor caught my eye, and my focus was on her, not these kids of mine. Her body language told me she seemed annoyed. Could it be that she was tired of holding her young son? Maybe she was fed up with the events because it was late in the day, and the sun was setting, making the area seem gray. The shadows crep...

Highway A2 to Barcelona

You are here: Home » Highway A2 to Barcelona Christopher and Nico Standing on a wall on the Shores of the  Mediterranean  Sea in Barcelona, Spain. January 5, 2020. Blake is still too little to do much more than hitch a ride. January 31, 2020 On the A2 highway in Spain, the family and I traveled across the highway from Madrid toward Barcelona. I am in awe of the countryside as I focus on land I have never seen before. It’s as if I’m reborn and seeing a world that, no pun intended, is foreign to me. The scenery is vast swaths of land littered with mountains and cliffs, and, of course, shapes of Toros (Bulls to you and I) loom large on the summit tops. Clouds lay thick in the valley while we traveled above it as if we were in an airplane at 36,000 feet. My mind wanders about. My family conversation is controlled chaos, and they discuss things like music, games, or activities. But I can block it all out and imagine the history that could be told about th...

Same Ole Me

You are here: Home » Same Ole Me Nico and Christopher marveling at the Catedral de la Almudena, Madrid, Spain. December 29, 2019. December 30, 2019 New year. New me. I’m sure you’ll see that from many online friends while scrolling through your timeline on Twitter or seeing it plastered on your Facebook wall leading up to the new year, 2020.  But I can honestly say that whatever inspirational quotes I see on a social media platform or Peloton ad shoved down my throat, you’ll always have the same ole me.   New day, new month, and new decade. I’m the same ole me.  Don’t get me wrong and think that by declaring that I’m the same ole me, I have stopped growing and evolving and have not learned from my past mistakes or hard lessons. I’m just declaring that I can change my attitude, body, and mind, but I’m the same old me at my core.  As 2019 closes and the last decade finds its place in the history books, I would love to have a better decade this time....

Death Had a Field Day, a Halloween Horror Story part 1

You are here: Home » Death Had a Field Day, a Halloween Horror Story part 1 Christopher and Nico waiting for the best pizza! August 2, 2019 October 19, 2019 To the Asylum You Go  The Great Depression of 1929 was on America's doorstep, and James Cherry was under immense pressure from the rail companies to produce more coal from the successful mine he grew out of farming lands of northern Illinois.   To alleviate some of the stress that the Chicago Milwaukee and St. Paul Rail Road owners placed on him, he decided to unload his most significant burden of the last 9 years.  Little did he realize that his son's removal would happen dramatically. The burly orderly punched Clyde squarely in the face.  The blunt force of the strike was concentrated on his nose.  The other orderly, who was lanky, was standing off to the side of the flailing body and only moved towards Clyde after his body settled on th...
