Pitter Patter of Little Feet

You are here: Home » Pitter Patter of Little Feet Nico and Christopher at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World. May 6, 2017 May 24, 2017 My hearing of the pitter-patter of little feet up and down the hallway of my wood-looking ceramic tile house has officially passed. My little boys' are aging so rapidly that their little feet are getting huge! They are so big, in fact, that I can't keep up with their shoe size. "Is it size 1 or 2? Do they need a 2 ½? Ugh." This is my thought process at the clothing store. Their naturally proportionate weight is pressing on their feet as their growth skyrockets from the ground up for all the world to see! The slight sound that used to pound while they ran now sounds like a jackhammer on any mid-town New York street. Back and forth, back and forth. It makes me want to open a window and yell to the construction worker below, "Hey, you gonna be slamming that hammer on the ground all day! People want to sleep!" ...

I Said Goodbye to My Best Friend Today

You are here: Home » I Said Goodbye to My Best Friend Today Nico rides Champ while Christopher watches. 2011 May 4, 2017 My dog, my pal, and the link to my past was my living history. He was around when my wife was pregnant with twins, and he shared their death with me in 2006. However, he stood firm when we brought my sons, Nico and Christopher, home. He became their protector, an overseer for their welfare. He was later called again by his friend to bring me comfort when my wife died 6 years later. But now this good ole boy is dying himself. He is at home resting in a hospice that I created for him. Palliative care is not my specialty, but I'm feeding him snacks I wouldn't otherwise give him. I'm holding him longer. And I still marvel at your big brown eyes that are as large as any horse. No wonder you ate like one. I want to talk to him, and I do, but I wish he could respond back. I would tell my boy how important he was to me in my recovery after my wife ...

Wave after Wave

You are here: Home » Wave after Wave Chirstopher (left) and Nico feeling fresh after haircuts, April 21, 2017. April 27, 2017 Waves pound on the land, which lines the edge of the mighty Atlantic Ocean. The fingers of the sea slowly pull back the beach sand that rightfully belongs to the living sea. The erosion causes mass hysteria because it erodes the platform of which people work, live and play. This causes cities and counties to come together to rebuild the beach so that people can come back to its edge and marvel at the beautiful Florida sunrises, midnight beach walks, and to play in the water that quenches the soul. If you haven’t seen the beach I’ll try to take you there. Take your first steps on to the beach sand. As your feet leave the hard surface of the man made ground allow your first foot sink into the soft sand. The sand overwhelms your foot and like an hour glass the sand falls in between your toes while your heel digs in and displaces the sand until you...

A Burger is a Burger

You are here: Home » Chili's Again?, a police story My youngest, Christopher. March 10, 2017 April 7, 2017 A passerby claimed a woman hit a child in the face while the family was sitting in a gray Chrysler minivan. The person who reported the incident didn't stick around long enough for me to interview her to make a decision. She called dispatch, reported what she saw, and  then  fled the area, not bothering to stick around. How typical. I rolled up in my marked patrol car, stopping just before the minivan, which was parked near the front doors of a major business. It's funny how we received no other calls on this incident, considering where the car was parked and the number of people coming and going from the main entrance. The family was standing alongside. One older woman and four kids waiting outside. The grandmother explained that she was left outside to watch the kids while their father was inside trying to negotiate a car. The family didn't appear to h...

Bundle of Joy, a quick blog

You are here: Home » A Bundle of Joy, a quick blog Captain, Christopher (left), and Nico. Ice skating for Nico's 9th birthday. March 11, 2017. March 24, 2017 I just woke up now. It’s 2:59 AM. I heard the sound my dog panting loudly. He’s an older dog now. Champ is my 12 and ½ year old yellow Labrador.   He’s getting older and thus it is becoming harder for him to hold his bladder. I knew he had to pee so I leaped out of bed to get him outside before he did. Funny how most mornings I have to find my barring’s in order to get out of bed. But the thought of my dog peeing in the house was motivation enough for me to jump out of bed as if it were a 3 alarm fire. “Champ, c’mon, “ I said. I hurriedly walked down my hallway towards the back door but then I almost slipped. I guess I was too late. He had already gone pee. “Damn!” – I could only think that due to everyone else sleeping. I turned back and reached for him to prevent Champ from walking through w...
