Bundle of Joy, a quick blog

You are here: Home » A Bundle of Joy, a quick blog Captain, Christopher (left), and Nico. Ice skating for Nico's 9th birthday. March 11, 2017. March 24, 2017 I just woke up now. It’s 2:59 AM. I heard the sound my dog panting loudly. He’s an older dog now. Champ is my 12 and ½ year old yellow Labrador.   He’s getting older and thus it is becoming harder for him to hold his bladder. I knew he had to pee so I leaped out of bed to get him outside before he did. Funny how most mornings I have to find my barring’s in order to get out of bed. But the thought of my dog peeing in the house was motivation enough for me to jump out of bed as if it were a 3 alarm fire. “Champ, c’mon, “ I said. I hurriedly walked down my hallway towards the back door but then I almost slipped. I guess I was too late. He had already gone pee. “Damn!” – I could only think that due to everyone else sleeping. I turned back and reached for him to prevent Champ from walking through w...

Changing Lanes

You are here: Home » Changing Lanes Nico (left) and Christopher getting fresh and clean haircuts. March 10, 2017.  March 21, 2017  Looking back on an older photograph of my young self gives me pause and then a chuckle, when I notice the full head of blonde hair that I had.   I was just a child, about 12, right before those hard teenage years that would bring me confusion, anger, and the reality that this is my current life. I thought I had no control over it and never knew about changing my lanes. I don’t yearn for some of those days back. We all know how our childhood years can be tough on us. I would rather not relive some of them. Because, in some of those down years I was lost child. There was no guidance to show me how to work though life’s problems. I didn't realize by shifting it into another direction I could change the course of my history. I just stare at this kid in the photograph, who is so different, then the man today, typing this blo...

Tick Tock

You are here: Home » Tick Tock Christopher, Captain Imperfecto, and our Yellow Lab, Champ. (Feb 2017) February 23, 2017 Forget about the hours and minutes. We live our lives in the second of a 24 hour period.   Think about it. Had you been one second earlier that car would have t-boned you. One minute later you would have been stuck in an awful traffic jam. That is why we must live every second. For me time seems to be picking up steam.   I’m so far away from being 20 that I feel as if I missed something along my path towards 40. Ironically I can remember 20 as if it happened yesterday.   Only I’m not the same person I was when I was 20.   Whether it’s my aging body that I notice or recent health scares that seem to arise out of the depths of my mind. I know now that I am so far removed from that youthful age that I should begin to enjoy the little things in life.   After all, it is those little things that will make my life worthwhile. “Dad...

Fearless

You are here: Home » Fearless Nico waiting for his turn on the Free Bird at the South Florida Fair, Jan 24, 2017 February 1, 2017 My eight-year-old son, Nico, is fearless. I know what you're thinking, "Dude, what 8-year-old kid isn't fearless? They don't understand the concept of danger!" However, while you read that line, and as I sit here and think, I will convince you that my statement is accurate!  I'm already smiling because I am reminiscing about that day last week when my son saw how scary that amusement ride was, and it didn't phase him. On the other hand, my heart still pounds when I think about it now, as I did when I was eight years old. At the fair, a giant beast of steel and lights is built by mortal men. This ride is only fixed in some places. Once the ride is done over a week or a weekend, it is torn down and will only be rebuilt again at the next fair.  This steel frame rises above the black asphalt, casting a shadow of fea...

Furry Companionship

You are here: Home » Furry Companionship Nico (left) and Christopher at the helm of a Walt Disney World Monorail, January 1, 2017. January 11, 2017 I could hear my Yellow Labradors panting from a mile away.  The sound was like the crackle of thunder rolling over green pastures. The sound seemed to go on forever. At 12 years old and 6 months he still has a lot of life in him. He can barely contain his enthusiasm when we come to the dog park. I’m grateful for his companionship after all theses years. Sadly he hasn't realized that youth is no longer on his side. I got him when he was just a puppy at 12 weeks. Puppies are like babies when you get them. They don’t have a clue how life works. You have to potty trained them and I had to teach him, not about the ABC’s, but all about the “no’s!” “No! Don’t eat those shoes!” “No! Don’t jump on the couch!” “No! Don’t knock over the trash!” “NO!” “NO!” “NO!” And then the day he turned 2 he matured. We...
